Elegant Victorian English Bracket Clock This beautiful ebonized Victorian 8-day 3-train fusee bracket clock is in exceptional preserved condition. It strikes all quarters on 8 nickel bells and the hour on a large coiled gong that is reminiscent of a tall clock with a deep resonant tone. The ebonized case is in excellent condition with no touch-ups to the black color and there are only a few places on the sides show any shrinkage of the secondary pear wood(far less than typical for the age and this type of clock). The original fire gilt embellishments are in excellent condition and add a rich and elegant gold contrast to the ebony body of the case. The substantial size(31 inch high by 18 inches wide) and well proportioned ebonized English case is color balanced with the well designed gold trim on the top of the case (five flaming urn type finials), a beautifully detailed door frame and side sound frets with the case resting on scrolled ormolu feet. The substantial movement is a work of art in itself with the attractive design tooled on the plates, its triple chain driven fusees, and the three radial controls on the dial: silent or strike; fast or slow; play on 8 bells or Westminster chimes. The clock clearly adds a degree of elegance and sophistication to any room without regard to the period of the furnishings or the quality of the pieces.
